Taiwan’s foreign minister stated that the island monitored the discussions between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, highlighting that Taipei is “keeping strong communication” with the US and plans to strengthen its relationship with America.
“Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung stated on Friday that, as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified, the enduring US policy regarding Taiwan, which has persisted through various presidents and administrations, remains unchanged.” “The US government has restated its stance against any measures that compel or impose a change to the current situation, highlighting that upsetting regional stability is greatly harmful to the US, China, and the global community.”
The foreign minister also reaffirmed the self-governing island’s stance that China is “the main source of threat causing widespread alarm in the global community.”
“We will persist in enhancing collaboration with the United States and allied nations in the Indo-Pacific, bolster our self-defense abilities, and collectively protect the peace, stability, and prosperity of the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region,” Lin mentioned.
Recent statements from the US: President Donald Trump remarked on Friday that he made “no commitment either way” regarding Taiwan in his discussion with Chinese President Xi Jinping, following a warning from Beijing that the matter could lead to conflict between the nations.
This differs from Rubio’s remarks earlier this week, when he highlighted that the US approach to Taiwan remains “unchanged.” In a Thursday morning interview with NBC News, Rubio stated: “From our viewpoint, any forced alteration of the status quo in the situation would be detrimental for both nations.”
