Kuwait detained four individuals it claimed were affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) trying to penetrate the Gulf Arab nation to “perform hostile actions,” according to state-run Kuwait’s News Agency (KUNA).
Four individuals tried to cross into the country on May 1 via a fishing boat and engaged in a confrontation with Kuwaiti soldiers, resulting in one soldier being injured, KUNA reported.
If verified, the event would mark the first recognized attempt by Iran to infiltrate militarily into a neighboring country during the conflict. KUNA identified the four individuals who were detained, along with their military ranks.
The interior ministry of Kuwait reported that the four admitted they were assigned by the IRGC to penetrate Bubiyan Island, a key commercial and logistics center, on May 1 “to carry out the mission that involves performing hostile actions against Kuwait.”
Kuwait was one of the Gulf Arab nations targeted by Tehran in response to the US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
