US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated Thursday that the US is close to finalizing a deal with China for a significant purchase of Boeing airplanes, and that both nations will discuss how to implement guidelines for AI technology development.
“The positive aspect is that the US is the unquestioned leader globally in this area.” “We possess the best AI companies,” he stated in a conversation with Xenix News. “The two AI superpowers will begin discussions to establish a protocol on the best practices for AI, ensuring that non-state actors do not gain access to these models.”
Bessent stated that soybeans “are fully managed” under a current sales contract with China, while also mentioning that the nation is eager to purchase additional US energy.
His remarks indicated advancement in trade discussions between the two superpowers, a key focus for both nations after the US and China established a delicate tariff ceasefire in October.
He stated that both parties will talk about forming a board that could recognize and facilitate Chinese investment in non-sensitive sectors in the US. He mentioned that a distinct trade board would also be considered, which might help in the elimination of certain tariffs on roughly $30 billion of goods “in non-essential sectors.”
