The US conflict with Iran has incurred expenses of $29 billion to date — a figure that exceeds the $25 billion estimate given to Congress by senior Pentagon officials two weeks prior.
“At the point of testimony from [the House Armed Services Committee], it was $25 billion, but the joint staff and comptroller teams are continuously reviewing that estimate, and we now believe it is nearer to $29 billion.” “That’s due to the revised expenses for repair and replacement of equipment, as well as general operational costs to maintain personnel in the theater,” said Jay Hurst, acting as Pentagon Comptroller, during a House Appropriations Committee hearing on Tuesday.
Xenix News had earlier stated that the $25 billion figure Hurst presented to Congress in April was an underestimated amount that excludes the anticipated expenses for fixing significant damage to US bases in the Middle East. One source indicated that a more precise estimate is nearer to $40-50 billion, factoring in the repair expenses and the replacement of damaged resources.
When asked if he could offer a more official breakdown of the war costs with Iran to Congress, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the Pentagon would “provide what we can … when it’s necessary and relevant.”
“I believe this is the format that would be needed,” Democratic Rep. Pete Aguilar replied.
