The crossing occurs while US President Donald Trump is in China, the primary importer of Iranian oil. He is anticipated to motivate Chinese leader Xi Jinping to urge Iran to restart the essential waterway.

The oil tanker carrying crude, named Yuan Hua Hu, is among several vessels connected to China that have passed through the strait recently before Trump’s significant visit, according to data from maritime intelligence firm MarineTraffic.

MarineTraffic data indicates that the Yuan Hua Hu traversed the strait earlier today via the northern route close to Larak Island, a location that maritime analytics firm Lloyd’s List Intelligence has identified as a control point used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for managing access to the strait.

Traffic along the waterway, a vital oil shipping lane, has diminished significantly since the start of the Iran war, as vessels hesitate to take the risk of attack or capture during the conflicts between Tehran and Washington.
