Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took a “secret trip” to the United Arab Emirates during the US-Israeli conflict with Iran and met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to a statement from Netanyahu’s office on Wednesday.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that the visit led to a “historic breakthrough” in the relationship between Israel and the UAE, though it did not specify when the visit occurred.
The declaration indicated the first occasion that Israel has openly recognized a visit by Netanyahu to the UAE.
The “historic breakthrough” could indicate the installation of an Israeli Iron Dome system in the UAE. Earlier this month, Xenix News revealed that Netanyahu covertly directed the Israeli military to deploy a battery of the system intended to intercept short-range missiles to the UAE, along with troops to manage it.
During that period, multiple Israeli officials informed Xenix News that, as the UAE moves away from its usual allies due to their position on the Iran conflict, Israel perceives a unique chance to enhance relations between the two nations.
