On Saturday, the Ministry of Defense revealed that the United Kingdom is sending a warship to the Middle East in anticipation of a possible operation to safeguard shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The HMS Dragon of the Royal Navy will assist in mine clearance operations and safeguard ships as part of a “strictly defensive” strategy, according to the ministry.
“The strategic placement of HMS Dragon is a wise measure that will guarantee the UK’s preparedness, alongside a multinational coalition co-led by the UK and France, to protect the Strait when circumstances permit,” stated a spokesperson from the ministry.
The United Kingdom and France have spearheaded an initiative to create a multinational operation aimed at safeguarding shipping in the waterway, while also urging other global partners to get involved.
