Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday supported his nation’s inquiry into the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
When questioned in the Oval Office regarding Khashoggi’s murder, the crown prince stated, “it’s painful and it’s a significant error” and supported the inquiry.
“Regarding the journalist, it’s truly distressing to hear about anyone who has lost their life without genuine reason or through illegal means, and it’s been hurtful for us in Saudi Arabia,” Prince bin Salman stated.
He mentioned that Saudi Arabia “took all the correct steps in the investigation” and that “we are working hard to ensure this doesn’t occur again.”
The prince’s most recent visit to Washington occurred in 2018, just months prior to Khashoggi’s assassination at a Saudi consulate in Turkey. An assessment by the CIA released later indicated that the prince probably orchestrated the assassination, although he has consistently denied being involved.
Hanan Elatr Khashoggi, the widow of Khashoggi, informed Xenix News before the White House visit that the encounter between the two leaders was “very painful for me.”
