Six individuals are unaccounted for following what Iranian authorities have termed a US strike “on Iranian fishing and cargo ships” in the Persian Gulf.
The strikes from “American warplanes” occurred close to the Omani port of Khasab, located on the southern edge of the Strait of Hormuz, as stated by the governor of Bandar-e-Lengeh, Fawad Moradzadeh.
He mentioned that multiple individuals had been transported to the hospital in Khasab.
Xenix News is contacting the US military for a response regarding the claim.
On Friday, the US military announced it had targeted two oil tankers bearing the Iranian flag that were attempting to evade the current US blockade, rendering them inoperable as they sought to dock at an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman, according to US Central Command.
“A F/A-18 Super Hornet from the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) incapacitated both tankers by targeting their smokestacks with precision munitions, stopping the non-compliant vessels from entering Iran,” the release on X stated. The disabled tankers were the M/T Sea Star III and M/T Sevda.
The two tankers were disabled following US strikes on multiple Iranian targets on Thursday, which Central Command described as retaliation for Iran’s assaults on US warships in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to marine tracking websites, minimal shipping is transiting the Strait as both Iran and the U.S. enforce blockades in or around the waterway
