Israeli assaults resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals – comprising a mother and her two children – in Lebanon on Wednesday, according to health officials, as hostilities escalated between Israel and the militant organization Hezbollah.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), citing the Ministry of Public Health, three deadly attacks on the coastal towns of Barja, Jiyeh, and Saadiyat “aiming at the Sidon-south coastal highway” resulted in the deaths of eight individuals. Images showed gray smoke rising above tall buildings surrounded by green trees and vehicles engulfed in fire, following the Israeli military’s operations in a dense area of towns and villages in the south, NNA reported. The Lebanese health ministry reported that strikes on vehicles in the Tyre district and Sidon resulted in four fatalities.
On Wednesday, the Israeli military began attacking what it called “Hezbollah terror infrastructure” in various areas of southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah launched 10 assaults on Israeli military positions on Wednesday, as per several declarations from the group. Israeli forces stated that “multiple rockets” and “explosive drones” were launched at soldiers in the south, noting that there were no casualties.
Lebanon’s health ministry reported on Wednesday that the Israeli campaign has resulted in 2,896 deaths and 8,824 injuries since early March. Human rights champions have consistently urged for a clear ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon prior to ambassador-level discussions in Washington, DC later this week.
