The ministry stated Monday that twenty-two crew members detained on the M/V Touska container ship were transported to Pakistan on Sunday night and will be transferred to Iranian authorities on Monday.
“The Iranian vessel will similarly be transported back to Pakistani territorial waters for return to its rightful owners following essential repairs,” the announcement stated.
Pakistan characterized the action as “a confidence-building measure” from the US and stated that the repatriation is being managed with assistance from both the US and Iran.
On April 19, US forces fired upon and captured the Iranian-flagged M/V Touska after it attempted to breach the US naval blockade and disregarded six hours of warnings, according to US Central Command.
