Political Legacy: From Legislator to Speaker
Thrasher entered the Florida House of Representatives in 1992, representing the Jacksonville region. A born leader, he ascended in position and was chosen as Speaker of the House in 1998, a

position he held until 2000. His time in office included bipartisan efforts, fiscal reform, and campaigns to update Florida’s education and health care systems.
He subsequently held a position in the Florida Senate from 2009 until 2014. At that time, he was Appointed chair of the Republican Party of Florida, a key role amid the party’s internal conflicts and a phase of reconstruction.
